J SUBJECT: Speed Limits on WCR 6 between 1-25 & Erie CL
A Request Resolution from the BOCC directing Public Works to install traffic regulatory signs (Speed Limit R2-
1) on WCR 6 between 1-25 to Town of Erie City Limits.
The most recent traffic count was taken in March 2011 the AADT was 570 vpd with 18% trucks and an
85th percentile of 48 mph. The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) recommends
posting the speed limit within 5 mph of the 85 percentile speed limit (Section 2B-13). Other factors
such as road characteristics, roadside development, accident records, and shoulder conditions may be
considered when establishing speed limits.
WCR 6 is a paved road and is classified as a collector road. Research into the recent accident records showed
one property damage only accident on this segment of roadway in the past 4 years. Based on this information;
Public Works recommends that the speed limit on WCR 6 between 1-25 and Town of Erie City Limits should be
reduced to 45 mph.
