REMARKS: After substantial increases in the Food Stamp caseload experienced during the
first t two months of the year, the March figures showed a slight increase. The elimination
of a Food Stamp rule that required recipients to "buy" or purchase a portion of their Food
Stamps eliminated a barrier for many people to participate in the program.
The Aid to Dependent Children caseload continued to show seasonal increases with a net 46
increase in households.
Other caseloads did not show remarkable change.
Expenditures for March, 1979 (excluding Old Age Pension)totalled $601,810. This was
$15,931 higher than the preceding month and $43,095 higher than March, 1978. Department
expenditures remain within budget with 23.4% expended for the first quarter of the budget
year.
