SUBJECT: Resolution for Equitable Sharing Funds
Consistent with the long term policy of the Weld County Drug Task Force Control Board concerning
monies seized by local jurisdictions without the aid of the WCDTF and the returning of these forfeited
monies to the seizing local agencies, the Greeley Police Department is requesting the approval of the
attached resolution requesting$5,315.20 be approved and recommended to the Weld County Task
Force Committee. The sum of$5,315.20 represents the combined total of the local authority's share of
two K-9 seizure cases. The facts of the seizures are as follows:
Greeley Police Department case# 10-8514: On June 9, 2010, a motor vehicle was stopped for a traffic
violation; the driver of the vehicle was arrested for driving under revocation as well as narcotics
violations. The male passenger was also arrested for outstanding warrants and was found to be in
possession of a large amount of currency.A K-9 search of the car was conducted and methamphetamine
was recovered from the vehicle. The money seized from the male passenger was$3040.00.These
monies were processed as an FBI seizure; the local share is$2305.28.
Greeley Police Department case# 10-8645: On June 11, 2010: officers conducted a traffic stop on a
vehicle. The driver was subsequently arrested as a revoked habitual traffic offender and the passenger
had outstanding drug warrants. During the inventory of the vehicle, the officer noted a grocery sack with
foodstuff items in it. One of the foodstuff boxes seemed abnormally heavy for what was noted as being
the contents of the box.The box was opened and found to contain money.A trained drug K-9 alerted to
the money indicating that it had been around narcotics. The amount of money seized was$4,000.00.
These monies were processed as an FBI seizure; the local share was$3,009.92
The combined total of both of these seizures is$5,315.20.These monies have been submitted to the
WCDTF equitable sharing fund.lt is requested these forfeited monies be returned to the City of Greeley
to support law enforcement operations.
