RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Narrative:
Miss Bosley would like to see street lights installed on CR 17 from Hwy 66, North to at least Pioneer Ridge subdivision. I
have attached a letter of reply thanking her for her interest and explaining that the intersection of CR 17 and Hwy 66 is in
CDOT right-of-way and outside my jurisdiction. I also explain that street lights are normally considered in more urban
settings and most of CR 17 is very rural. None the less, her suggestion is worthwhile and I will have discussions with my
staff.

Miss Bosley,
Thank you for your letter concerning County Road 17. Your letter was forwarded to me from the
Weld County Commissioner's office and I am happy to respond.
The intersection of County Road 17 and Highway 66 falls under the jurisdiction of the Colorado
Department of Transportation(CDOT), and that would be the appropriate agency to contact
regarding a streetlight at that location.
Streetlights are normally more appropriate in urban settings, and much of County Road 17 is
very rural. Many of our citizens want as much as possible, to preserve the traditional rural
lifestyle and they see urban amenities such as streetlights as an invasion to that way of life.
Nonetheless, your suggestion is worthwhile, and I will discuss it with my staff
Again, thank you for your letter and please contact me if I can be of further assistance.
Respectfully,
Jay McDonald
Director

To whom it may concern, Weld County Colorado,
My name is Hanah Bosley. I am a student at Milliken Middle School and I live in the Pioneer Ridge
subdivision in Johnstown, CO. I am thirteen years old and in the eighth grade. I have been living in
Johnstown for three years, and I love that the people are nice and the schools are fantastic, it's a
great community to live in.
The concern I have about Weld County is many of the back roads when returning to Johnstown worn
Denver. When my family and I first moved to Johnstown we would always miss our turn on to County
Road 17 coming off Highway 66 because of how dark it was. Once we were on the road I noticed that
you can't see the other roads or other cars coming towards you on either your right or your left. The
same thing happened to so many of my relatives. This made me wonder why there were no street
lights on any of the back roads.
One strong solution is to put a street light where County Road 17 first starts. Then put one at the
intersections that are extremely hard to see at night. I believe that this could solve many problems
such as; preventing accidents, helping drivers see the road better, and so many more safety issues. It
would also help travelers or new people to the town that way they can see the road and not get lost, if
they are coming from Denver or that direction.
Thank you very much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to read and consider my letter. I
would appreciate it if you could respond and tell me what you think or what we could do to solve this.
Sincerely,
