TO: Clerk to the Board DATE: January 14, 2015
W E L 0 N T Y FROM: Janet Lundquist, Public Works
SUBJECT: Temporary Reduction of Speed Limits on WCR 42
A Request Resolution from the BOCC directing Public Works to install traffic regulatory signs (Speed Limit R2-
1) on WCR 42. The signs will be in place from February 2, 2015-April 31, 2015.
The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) recommends posting the speed limit within 5
mph of the 85 percentile speed limit (Section 2B-13). Other factors such as road characteristics,
roadside development, accident records, and shoulder conditions may be considered when establishing
speed limits. WCR 42 & WCR 29 was under construction for a concrete box structure and a roadway
realignment. The construction for the box structure had to be constructed while irrigation was not
running. The roadway will not be able to re-pave until the end of April. This is leaving a segment of
roadway unpaved between two paved sections. For public safety we would like to reduce the speed
limit from 55 mph to 35 mph temporarily.
