7. Positive drainage shall be provided to minimize surface runoff from entering the system.
8. The top of the field shall be seeded or sodded with low-water demand vegetation to control
erosion and aid evapo-transpiration. Large trees or shrubs should not be planted within 6 feet of
the field.
9. The completed leach field should not be paved or driven over at any time.
10. A licensed septic system installer should be chosen by the client. A list of licensed installers is
available from WCHD. The installer should use best construction practices during all phases of
the septic system construction.
11. Proper maintenance of the septic system will help lengthen effective life of the system.
Information regarding septic system maintenance can be found through various on-line guides
including the EPA manual "A Homeowner's Guide to Septic Systems".

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Excavation should be performed in such a way as to limit/eliminate traffic over the area of the
absorption bed.
2. All wastewater lines shall be constructed of compatible pipe, primer, bonding agent and fittings.
3. Use Schedule 40 PVC pipe for all piping between the buildings and the absorption bed.
4. All system piping shall be bedded with select, granular material. Material may be on-site or
imported material.
5. Compact soils around tank and distribution box to ensure piping will remain level and settlement
will not create bellies within the piping.
