Scheel Warren Terry Stan Boyes John Chlanda (for Dave Freemyer) Steve Weatherford and Bob Britzman, NHPQ Christine Kavalec, County Commissioners' Office 2. NHPQ PRESENTATION OF DETAILED MAPS AND PERSPECTIVES Steve Weatherford displayed a large colored, detailed map of proposed Island Grove Park development. The map included more than 1300 perimeter parking spaces, an 18 hole golf course in the northeast corner, beaches and an approximately 145 acre lake; tennis courts and playing fields with some spectator facilities. A large circulation map showed controlled access within the park for exhibitors, security and maintenance. Paths and trails for pedestrians, bicyclists and eques- trians encompass the park; these trails could double for emergency vehicle access. Smaller colored perspectives were shown of the outdoor exhibit area, a playground, a cleaner river and bordering wildlife sanctuary and trails, lake overview and the inner park geared to quiet recreation and accessibility by handicapped. When asked by Chlanda, Billings pointed out the park is hoped to eventually be somewhere between 500 and 800 acres; acquisition of land will be the major step and landscaping and development will be done as it can be funded. Development of the park has great potential for community involvement. 3. LIGHTING Weatherford showed a map pinpointing 38 sodium 400 watt fixtures which would provide adequate area lighting in the existing park and good perimeter lighting. The lights would be 150 feet apart. Approximate costs include $31,000 for the lights, $22,000 for underground wiring and trenching and $11,000 for the poles; total approximate cost is $64,000. 4. DISCUSSION When asked for suggestions or comments, the group indicated satisfaction with the plans. (Terry, having just arrived, said he'd have to study the plans. ) Chlanda stated he was impressed with the proposal and foresaw long-term use by all people; the park plans particularly pleased him since there were alternate plans being made for the rodeo. 5.
