DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH `

WHEREAS, domestic violence is prevalent in every community and affects all people £'
regardless of age, status, orientation, gender, race, religion, or nationality, and
• �' + ° WHEREAS, physical violence is often accompanied by emotional abuse and controlling ,1

I - j behavior as part of a much larger systematic pattern of intimidation, dominance and j •
iN' control perpetrated by one intimate partner to another, and '.? t:
!� WHEREAS, domestic violence can result in physical injury, psychological trauma, and
even death, and the devastating consequences of domestic violence can cross � /
generations and last a life time, and /,J
1, • \`x WHEREAS, on a typical day, domestic violence hotlines nationwide receive I 1.
� ' approximately 20,800 calls, and last year, A Woman's Place provided 532 services for �1
N. crisis calls and 4,202 nights of safe shelter to adult and children victims of domestic .a
violence in Weld County, and ,1 ..

� WHEREAS, victims of domestic violence need to know that they may receive

�_ confidential help at no cost, and they are not alone. It is the mission of A Woman's
Place to shelter and help empower victims and survivors of domestic violence to IA s:),
�, become safe, secure and self-reliant; and through education and collaboration, to `/
mobilize our community to help prevent domestic violence. y J
A,\ NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of County Commissioners does hereby proclaim the 1 X
�, ' month of October, 2015, as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and reaffirms the ` \
County's commitment to empower victims and survivors to help prevent domestic --- cro
