Dear Sir:
Recently, it has come to my attention that a potential water pollution
problem exists in our county. For some time now, the oil and gas industry
has been expanding its operation in Weld County, especially in the south-
west part of the county. As I understand this operation, there is a
certain amount of produced wastewater associated with the drilling and
pumping process. A recent laboratory report on the quality of this
wastewater is enclosed. It is the disposal of this wastewater that
concerns me. Therefore, I pose the following questions:
1. How many oil and gas wells are there in our county and
what percentage of them produce wastewater? Also, what
is the volume, per well, of this wastewater?
2. Who has regulatory authority in this area?
3. What is the recommended procedure for the disposal of this
wastewater?
4. Are there any official disposal sites in Weld County, and
if so, what are there locations?
5. If permits are required, what are the parameters for
issuance of such a permit?
I look forward to further communicating with you on this matter.
Sincerely,
.(..c..,7
