RE: Preliminary results for High Sierra C12 Site,Weld County, Colorado
CDS Engineering Project# 14-7161
Dear Nick,
On October 7, 2014, we conducted a geotechnical exploration at the above reverenced site. The
field investigation consisted of drilling one (1) test boring to a depth of thirty five (35) feet. The
purpose of this exploration was to identify subsurface conditions and obtain preliminary data
necessary to provide recommendations for the design and construction of the foundation and
septic systems.
We encountered loose sands with trace amounts of silt to the depths explored. At the time of our
exploration, groundwater was not encountered in the boring. We obtained two (2) samples at
this time; the samples that we obtained and tested are anticipated to have no swell potential.
It is our understanding that there will be extensive overlot grading conducted at this site. Based
on the information above, and conditions observed in the field, the foundations could be
continuous spread footing foundations, bearing on the sands or compacted, approved fill
material. Appropriate bearing capacities for foundations bearing on the native, undisturbed
sands would be 1000 psf. Appropriate bearing capacities for foundations bearing on compacted,
approved fill material would be 2000 to 2500 psf. We do not anticipate any limiting layers to be
encountered in the area of the proposed on site wastewater treatment system. Based on the soils
encountered, we anticipate an average percolation rate to be between 10 and 30 minutes per inch.
A K-Value of 300 psi/inch could be used for preliminary design purposes.
The conclusions and recommendations presented here are preliminary and could change
following the completion of additional borings and laboratory testing. The recommendations are
based upon field data and previous experience with similar soil conditions. If you have any
questions, please feel free to contact our office.
