This District will provide curb, gutter, sidewalk, and paved streets for the entire Town. Some concerns remain as to the feasibility of making improvements in McClure Street with the threat of failure and loss of paving and curb and gutter due to runoff in the ditch that lies south of and adjacent to the Town of Firestone. We have asked our Project Engineer to provide us information regarding the improvements in McClure Street between First and Fourty. He has informed us that the curb, gutter, sidewalk, street basing and paving for this street alone will amount to $30 , 571. We have also requested that he provide us with cost estimates to improve the drainage situation along this street. It appears that there are two methods of attacking the problem, the first of which would be placing a 36" diameter 12 gage aluminum culvert pipe 1700 ' in length from the corner of Fourth and McClure to the concrete lined ditch at First and McClure. Two factors affect the cost estimate for this alternate, they are (1) inaccurate flow data from the irrigation runoff of upstream farms , (2) the actual installation cost of material. With these two factors taken into account, his conservative estimate for installation of this culvert would be $42 ,500 . The second alter- nate is a concrete lined ditch between Fourth and Johnson Avenue with a 36" diameter culvert pipe under Johnson to the concrete lined ditch. The same factors affect this estimate, which he indicates is $30 ,500. Some refinement of these numbers would be necessary and could be done in conjunction with your County Engi- neer. Because of right-of-way constraints south of the Screwball Inn , we are forced to install only 22 ' of asphalt mat, which is not really adequate for two-way traffic at this intersection. 780503 i 1 / 14(1 We would request your consideration in placing some improvements on the county side of the right-of-way to improve the drainage situation, to increase safety at the Screwball Inn corner, and to tie the north end of the Evanston streets into McClure to have a complete project which all area residents and the Board of Com- missioners can be proud of.
