RE: APPROVE CREATION OF WELD COUNTY BRIGHT FUTURES ADVISORY BOARD
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering
the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, the Board desires to create the Weld County Bright Futures Advisory Board to advise
the Board of County Commissioners in the development of a Grant Program providing "first in" tuition
assistance to high school graduates, GED recipients and Honorably Discharged Veterans who wish to
pursue post-secondary education or training from accredited higher education institutions or certified
training programs, and, in connection therewith, to make recommendations in the development and
implementation of rules, procedures, and guidelines for such program known as Weld County Bright
Futures, and
WHEREAS, the overall objective is to ensure a strong and diverse workforce while providing the
opportunity for post-secondary education or training, and be designed to assist residents in achieving
their educational and occupational goals, and in turn, drive decades of economic growth and prosperity in
Weld County, and
WHEREAS, the Bright Futures Advisory Board shall be comprised of a minimum of fifteen
members to be appointed by the Board of County Commissioners, including a minimum of twelve Weld
County citizens, and shall include standing memberships of a representative from Upstate Colorado
Economic Development, a K-12 Weld County Superintendent of Schools, and an Aims Community
College financial aid professional. The Weld County Treasurer shall be an ex-officio member and
administer the program, and the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson will be appointed by Board of County
Commissioners, and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners will make appointments and approve bylaws for
the Bright Futures Advisory Board at a later date.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
Colorado, that the Weld County Bright Futures Advisory Board be, and hereby is, created.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners that the Board will make
appointments and approve bylaws for the Bright Futures Advisory Board at a later date.
