REMARKS: Although Public Assistance and Food Stamp caseloads increased slightly during
August, they remain below the level carried one year ago. August caseloads continue to
reflect the stable trend that has held forth for many months now. Foster Care and Day
Care costs , although not reported here, remain higher than in the previous year.
Expenditures for August (excluding Old Age Pension) were $538,386. This amount was
$3,659 less than the preceding month but $54,401 higher than the same month in 1977.
Department spending remains within budget with 64.1% expended after 8 months. This
compares with a 66.6% "on-target" rate.
