Lead investigations often reveal sources within homes, such as lead based paint or cookware with high lead levels. Abatement is at the owner's discretion and is often cost prohibitive. Funding will be used to purchase HEPA vacuum cleaners and/or other supplies so that affected residents can self-remediate. The end goal is to reduce lead exposure to residents, particularly children. What options exist for the Board? Accept or deny the donation Consequences: Accepting the donation will provide the ability to purchase specialty tools for lead remediation and/or new replacement of items that were a cause for lead poisoning (such as cookware) on behalf of Weld County residents affected by high lead levels. Impacts: This donation will allow staff to assist families in reducing or eliminating their lead exposure and therefore, reducing the health impacts of lead poisoning. Costs (Current Fiscal Year / Ongoing or Subsequent Fiscal Years): Activities will be conducted by current staff. No additional staff or County funding is requested. Once donated funds are exhausted the program will cease. Recommendation: I recommend approval to place this item on a future BOCC agenda for formal consideration.
