LARIMER-WELD COG DRAFT 208
WATER QUALITY MANAGEMENT PLAN
The Larimer-Weld Regional Council of Governments has recently
released the Draft Areawide Water Quality Management Plan for
local public review and concurrent review by the State of Colorado
and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Four public meetings are scheduled for June and July and
followed by final Public Hearing on July 27. Following all meet-
ings and the hearing, the COG Governing Board will instruct staff
to make alterations , corrections or modifications to the 208 Plan.
Local adoption of the 208 Plan as modified should take place at
the September Board meeting in Loveland. Additional public input
will be sought at the September Board meeting prior to adoption.
Once adopted locally and officially transmitted to the State
and EPA, the Governor must certify the Plan followed by approval
by the EPA.
The purpose of the four public meetings is :
o to explain the content of the 208 Plan to interested
parties;
o to solicit public comments and recommendations ;
o to identify significant issues.
Following the final public meeting the staff will compile the
major issues identified and prepare recommendations for the Board
to consider at the Formal Public Hearing.
The Formal Public Hearing will be conducted jointly by the
COG Governing Board and the Colorado Water Quality Control Com-
mission. A record of the hearing will be kept.
Following the Formal Public Hearing and at the August Board
meeting , the Board will instruct staff to prepare the final 208
Plan taking into consideration public comment .

If additional time is required for the Board to review tran-
scripts of the hearing and staff recommendations , a special work
session will be held in early August.
At the September COG Board meeting, staff will brief the
Board as to instructional changes. The COG Board will then act
according to their pleasure.
