WORLD ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY
JUNE 15, 2016
WHEREAS, June 15 is recognized as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, and
WHEREAS, at -risk adults represent some of the most vulnerable individuals in Weld
County, and
WHEREAS, Colorado law defines an at -risk elder as any person age 70 or older, and
mandates that certain professionals report mistreatment of at -risk elders to law
enforcement, and
WHEREAS, the population of Weld County is steadily aging, creating a larger
population of at -risk elders, and
WHEREAS, elders in the community have a right to not be physically abused,
financially exploited, exploited by other means, or neglected in their basic care, and
WHEREAS, each of us plays a role in the prevention of elder abuse, and in addition to
mandatory reporters, Weld County encourages anyone concerned about the safety
and well-being of any at -risk adult in Weld County to notify either law enforcement or
make a report to the adult protection hotline (970) 346-7676, and
NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of County Commissioners does hereby proclaim
Wednesday, June 15, 2016, as Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
