Rocky Mountain Dog Kennels
Weld County Commissioners:
My name is Cherie Berthod and I was given this email address by the information operator fbr Weld
County. She indicated you would get this to the Commissioners.
A couple of years ago you approved Jeff Child's application for a dog kennel which would allow up to 75
kenneled dogs and 25 doggie day care dogs. His presentation was very elaborate, indicating a very expensive
SOUND PROOF building, solid fencing, and landscaping which would provide a barrier between him and
neighbors. Additionally, his customers were to use County Road 5 rather than County Road 3. I
live adjacent to the south of the kennel. My question to you - is there any follow-up when you approve
something of this nature. Is there a scheduled review to see if what was presented is actually what is being
done?
The reason for the question, obviously, is because none of the above has been done. The building looks nice
from the outside but is definitely not sound proof as I can hear people talking inside, the dogs harking - i can
even hear his phone ring! 90% of his customers use my road (CR 3) to come and go twice daily to pickup their
dogs. As Mother Nature has not blessed us with any rain and you no longer dust coat the road, a large cloud of
dust looms most of the day. Additionally, his customers have no regard for this being a residential area and
travel at very high speeds on the road which creates even more dust. There is NO landscaping - he just recently
mowed the weeds. I am told, however, he did plant some trees on the North side of the kennel that are about 6"
tall each. Most of us in the neighborhood will not live long enough to see an actual tree that could be
considered a barrier or landscaping - plus there are no residents on the North side of the kennel, 'Lhe fencing is
pipe posts and top with a combination of mesh wire and livestock panels for the actual harrier.
understand your expuessed view that a person should be abie to do what they wish with their land, however, l
do not agree with that theory when it has such a negative impact on the surrounding landowners. Your lack of
regard for the impact this kennel has had on our neighborhood ranging from annoyance to negative property
values to many safety and environmental issues is not acceptable but would he more palatable if some type of
review or followup is done to make sure what you approved is actually what is be done.
I would appreciate a response regarding the above.
Regards,
Cherie 13erthod

I had Diana set up a PCSC and she is scheduling a meeting/site visit with the property owner to make sure they are
incompliance with the MUSR.
