RESOLUTION
RE: ADOPTION OF POLICY REGARDING SMOKING IN CERTAIN AREAS OF
WELD COUNTY BUILDINGS.
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home
Rule Charter, are vested with the authority of administering the
affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Health of Weld County, Colorado has
a mandate to provide guidance and protection of Weld County' s
health, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Health of Weld County, Colorado has
urged the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado,
to develop a policy which would discourage smoking in all public
meeting rooms and public waiting areas in all Weld County build-
ings, and,
WHEREAS , the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
Colorado, believe that smoking and the breathing of smoke-filled
air is a special concern and is a proven hazard to health, and,
WHEREAS, persons who attend or particpate in public meetings,
or who must sit in waiting rooms in Weld County buildings are en-
titled to comfort and freedom from exposure to smoke-filled air,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Com-
missioners of Weld County, Colorado, that Weld County does here-
by adopt a policy which discourages smoking in all public meeting
rooms and public waiting areas in all Weld County buildings.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners
of Weld County, Colorado, that said Board of County Commissioners
encourage all Personnel, who smoke, to attend smoking cessation
clinics for the ultimate protection of the health of Weld County
citizens.
The above and foregoing Resolution was , on motion duly made
and seconded, adopted by the following vote on the 7th day of
March, A.D. , 1977.

Dear Comm. Steinmark:
This letter will bring the Weld County Board of Health Resolution
on Smoking and Health (see attached) recommending non-smoking
areas be designated in all public hearing rooms, conference rooms,
and waiting rooms in all of the County buildings. It is within
the scope of the Board of Health to look after the health of the
citizens of Weld County and we recommend favorable implementation
by the Board of Commissioners.
If there is any way we can be of assistance, please call upon us.
