I am writing to express the concerns of my husband and my self, as well as our objections to the planned "shelter". I also take issue with the way the applicants have thus far shared information on the proposed project. My husband and I reside west of and adjacent to Woodruff Street; North of and and adjacent to Morris Avenue (at 7933 Woodruff Street). Our proximity to the location of the proposed project is basically across the street from it. We both feel the location of such a project is inappropriate for the area in which we live. We have always been under the impression Aristocrat Ranchettes was a residential area. Most of the lots in this subdivision are only "'1 acre. I realize some homeowners own more than one lot and have a sizable "yard" area, but these are still single family homes. Neighbors are close in this small community of just over 1200 residents. I certainly don't consider my neighborhood "the country". We live close enough to the proposed project to hear the animals. To keep it simple, we have to listen to their animals every night. Shortly after the new family moved into their Woodruff address they got a puppy (I don't know if the puppy was a "rescue" or not). While Ms. Linder claims to have never noticed the noise from her own home, I had to listen to that poor puppy yip every night for ^'3 weeks. I was up til midnight (sometimes a little earlier, sometimes much later!) every night for ^'3 weeks and then had to get up at 5am to go to work. (Yes, most of the residents here do work daily...we are not a retirement community.) I didn't complain because i didn't want to seem "unneighborly". Now I find they are trying to open a shelter, basically a revolving door for stressed, abused, unwanted animals that do what dogs do when they are stressed or frightened and in unfamiliar surroundings....they bark! It's only natural for the animals to react this way. However, i feel it grossly unfair to expect the neighborhood to have to put up with the constant noise of new animals trying to adjust to new surroundings all the time. My husband and I attended a meeting at the ARWP Meeting Room on August 23rd. Ms. Linder was inconsistent with the information she shared. She at first said there would never be more than 10 animals because that was all she could handle. She also said it would be non profit. She basically asked for donations more than once during the "informational" meeting. As more people arrived and others asked questions she (seemingly by accident) admitted that she could have up to 30 dogs. At the meeting she basically addressed her business would be to rescue dogs. However as she spoke to address someone's questions I feel the real purpose of the business came out. She spoke of how she needed to take on more animals so she could afford to hire someone to help her so she could take in even more animals. She even said she had already taken in animals from the city of Fort Lupton. I don't trust that Ms Linder is in this business for altruistic reasons. I feel she is in it as a money -making venture and her sleepless neighbors are of no consequence. Ms. Lindner wasn't sympathetic at all when we expressed concerns over the noise. The gentleman (he never introduced himself, but was fielding questions) with Ms. Linder at the meeting could only say "That's what dogs do...they bark". The way I see it Ms. Linder will keep that kennel full of animals and in an effort to make all the money she can. She even tried to justify acceptance of the facility citing the need because of local feral animals. I can assure you the stray cat and stray dog problems of this community are almost "nil" compared to what they were when I moved into it some 15 years ago. And..l have never had a problem with Weld County Animal control officers on the couple of occasions I have had to call them. I think she really misrepresented the stray issue at the meeting and the overwhelmed animal control situation, in an effort to make her business intentions more palatable. I actually feel she misrepresented a lot of things (profit/nonprofit, number of animals at any given time). Again, a reason for mistrust. Ms. Linder claims she moved "out in the country" to open this business. I'm not sure how she could possibly conceive this neighborhood to be "the country". She claims can keep 30 animals quiet, and kennel them humanely while doing so, on a lot size of -1 acre. How can these animals be kept in a humane way with so little space for 1 exercise? Ms. Linder claims she will have "sound -proof" kennels, so there will be little to no noise from the animals. This she claimed well into the meeting after a couple of other participants questioned the noise issue. I don't buy it. I think she misrepresented this as well. lam truly concerned about the welfare of the animals she takes in. I think she is providing the minimum requirements to keep costs down and profits up. My husband actually saw two wire cages (unprotected) with dogs in them in Ms. Cinder's yard (adjacent to their home). Regardless of whether the dogs were "rescued", boarders, or family pets, how can this be a humane way to keep them? The cages have since been moved. In closing i want to ask you this (and please be honest) how would you, or anyone you know, like to live next to up to 30 barking dogs? There is a reason why cities put their animal shelters in business districts and not even near housing areas. McKinley Ave. Fort Lupton, CO 8O621 December 5, 2016 Weld County Planning Commission Planning & Building Department 1555 N. 17th Ave. Greeley, CO 80631 Weld County Planning Commission Members, I would like to recommend and request your vote of approval for Debbie Linder, Furever Dog Rescue & Boarding facility. Ms. Linder is seeking a favorable vote from your board to operate an animal rescue and shelter in Weld County. Ms. Linder's plans for this shelter will benefit many animals and her continued support for these animals will help with the homeless/unwanted animals that the County is plagued with. This endeavor will be quite challenging for Ms. Linder but her strong beliefs and compassion will help her overcome any obstacles she might face. This business will help benefit many of the residents in Weld County and will be very advantageous to the community in which she lives. I hope that you can show her the support that Weld County has always given its residents your recommendation to the Commissioners which will allow her to proceed with her dreams. Thank you, Terrie Asay Hello
