RE: APPROVE INSTALLATION OF TEMPORARY TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES ON
COUNTY ROAD 13 BETWEEN COUNTY ROADS 34 AND 36
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, the Weld County Department of Public Works has recommended to the Board
that temporary Speed Limit Signs (R2-1) be installed on County Road 13 between County
Roads 34 and County Road 36, for a period commencing March 6, 2017, and ending April 26,
2017 to ensure safety to the traveling public, and
WHEREAS, after review, the Board has determined that said temporary traffic control
devices are necessary for the protection of the general public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld
County, Colorado, that the Department of Public Works be, and hereby is, directed to install
temporary Speed Limit Signs (R2-1) on County Road 13 between County Road 34 and 36,
reducing the speed limit from 55 mph to 35 mph, for a period commencing March 6, 2017, and
ending April 26, 2017, for the safety of the general public, and said signs shall conform to the
State Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted
by the following vote on the 8th day of March, A.D., 2017.

SUBJECT: Temporary Reduction of Speed Limits on WCR 13
A Request Resolution from the BOCC directing Public Works to install traffic regulatory signs (Speed Limit R2-
1) on WCR 13. The signs will be in place from March 6 -April 26, 2017.
The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) recommends posting the speed limit within 5
mph of the 85 percentile speed limit (Section 2B-13). Other factors such as road characteristics,
roadside development, accident records, and shoulder conditions may be considered when establishing
speed limits. CR 13 between CR 34 and CR 36 will be under construction for full depth reclamation and
asphalt paving. For public safety we would like to reduce the speed limit from 55 mph to 35 mph
temporarily.
