RE: Colorado Pretrial Assessment Tool Revalidation and Implementation Project
Dear Members of the Institutional Review Board,
The Weld County Board of Commissioners, through its Justice Services Department is pleased to work with
Dr. Victoria Terranova, Dr. Kyle Ward, and the University of Northern Colorado's (UNC) Department of
Criminology and Criminal Justice as a supporter of their research project titled "Colorado Pretrial Assessment
Tool (CPAT) Revalidation and Implementation Project." Members of our organization have fully discussed the
purpose and nature of the proposed study with Dr. Terranova and Dr. Ward.
It is understood that the goal of this project is to revalidate the CPAT and study the implementation of the tool
throughout numerous counties in Colorado. As part of this research project, the department will provide
UNC's team with data relating to individuals who have gone through the pretrial process in our county.
The data provided to UNC's research team will include identifiable information. In providing data to UNC, we
understand that the data will be stored using encrypted hard drives, and only accessed by Dr. Terranova, Dr.
Ward, or members of their research team. All information provided to the researchers will be kept confidential,
and all members of their research team will sign confidentiality agreements. In addition, all data will be de -
identified by the researchers after their database is compiled and cleaned.
The Board understands that this is not a binding contract or agreement, but a statement of interest. An official
agreement with the University of Northern Colorado may follow.
