WELD COUNTY COUNCIL
April 17, 2017
The Weld County Council met in regular session in full conformity with the Weld County Home
Rule Charter at 6:30 p.m., Monday, April 17, 2017, at the Weld County Administration Building,
1150 0 Street, Greeley, CO.
ROLL CALL:
0 The meeting was called to order by President Brett Abernathy. Councilmen Michael Grillos,
Jordan Jemiola, Charles Tucker and Gene Stille were present, constituting a quorum of members.
Also present was County Attorney Bruce Barker and County Council Secretary Linda Kane.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA :
Councilman Stille made a motion to approve the agenda, seconded by Councilman Grillos
and carried unanimously
APPROVAL OF DOCUMENTATION:
Approval of March 20, 2017, Minutes
Councilman Stille made a motion to approve the March minutes, seconded by Councilman
Jemiola, and the motion carried.
REVIEW PROGRAMS:
Presentation by Weld County Conservation District. Those present were Board President
John Leone and District Manager Kandee Nourse.
Their presentation included a video which can be found at: http://www.wgcd.org/
PUBLIC COMMENT:
There was no public comment.
NEW BUSINESS:
Discussion of Investigation Report Regarding
County Commissioner Sean Conway
Councilman Tucker stated Council should ask Commissioner Conway to resign or ask the
voters to conduct a recall. Councilman Abernathy said Council should wait for the results of the
audits before taking any action. Further discussion was postponed until after completion of the
audits.
Coordinator Reports
There were no coordinator reports. Councilman Stille suggested Councilman Reports and
stated he addressed the sanitation issue in Carr.
Bills
Councilman Tucker made a motion to approve bills, it was seconded by Councilman Grillos and
carried.

Invitations
Council was invited to a Partners in Prevention Breakfast.
OLD BUSINESS:
Discussion regarding audits of the Clerk and Recorder's Office and
County Commissioners
Councilman Abernathy stated Council has roughly $5,000 in the budget to pay for outside
counsel to review audit results. Councilman Grillos spoke to three different attorneys and
suggested Barbara Green. Councilman Tucker said he doesn't support hiring an independent
attorney.
Councilman Abernathy made a motion to hire Barbara Green as the attorney to review the
audits, seconded by Councilman Jemiola. Councilman Stille asked the motion and second be
withdrawn.
Councilman Abernathy added a friendly amendment that Council use an independent attorney
dependent on funding allocated via the County Commissioners, seconded by Jemiola. A roll call
vote showed Councilmen Abernathy and Grillos in favor, as well as Councilman Jemiola with
added comment that he doesn't believe it's necessary to ask Commissioners for the allocation;
with Councilman Tucker opposed and Councilman Stille opposed with comment that if funding
is not approved by the Commissioners, he is not responsible for paying that attorney.
ADJOURNMENT:
By acclamation, the meeting was adjourned at 7:39 p.m.
