PROCLAMATION
MENTAL HEALTH MONTH - MAY, 2017
WHEREAS, mental health is essential to everyone's overall physical health and emotional
well-being, and
WHEREAS, Weld County lost 48 lives to suicide in 2016, and many individuals and families are
affected by mental illness and substance use disorder issues, and
WHEREAS, access to local, community -based prevention, intervention, and treatment services are
much less likely to require more expensive alternatives of hospitalization or incarceration, and
WHEREAS, integrated physical and behavioral healthcare has been successful in Weld through
collaborations between North Range Behavioral Health and community health centers, and
WHEREAS, with early and effective treatment, those individuals with mental illness or substance
use disorders can recover and lead full, productive lives, and
WHEREAS, as of December, 2014, without regard for ability to pay, our citizens have access to
24/7 Crisis Services for mental health and addiction crises in Weld and throughout the state, and
WHEREAS, Mental Health Month is nationally recognized every May to raise awareness about
mental health and addictive disorders, and the importance of prevention and mental wellness.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it hereby resolved that the Board of Weld County Commissioners does
hereby proclaim the month of May, 2017 as Mental Health Month, and calls upon the citizens,
government agencies, public and private institutions, businesses and schools to recommit our
community to increasing awareness and understanding of behavioral health, and the need for
appropriate and accessible services for all citizens.
