HomeMy WebLinkAbout20171873.tiffRECORD OF PROCEEDINGS MINUTES HOUSING AUTHORITY WELD COUNTY, COLORADO JUNE 26, 2017 The Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, met in regular session as the Housing Authority Board in full conformity with the laws of the State of Colorado at the regular place of meeting in the Weld County Administration Building, Greeley, Colorado, June 26, 2017, at the hour of 9:00 a.m. ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order by the Chair and on roll call the following members were present, constituting a quorum of the members thereof: Commissioner Julie A. Cozad, Chair Commissioner Steve Moreno, Pro -Tern Commissioner Sean P. Conway Commissioner Mike Freeman Commissioner Barbara Kirkmeyer Also present: County Attorney, Bruce Barker Acting Clerk to the Board, Stephanie Frederick Controller, Barbara Connolly MINUTES: Commissioner Conway moved to approve the minutes of the Housing Authority Board meeting of May 22, 2017, as printed. Commissioner Kirkmeyer seconded the motion, and it carried unanimously. PUBLIC INPUT: John Lovell and Nicole Stanek, representatives of St. Vrain Habitat for Humanity, presented the Neighborhood Revitalization Program and submitted a flyer marked as Exhibit "A". Ms. Stanek explained the mission of Habitat for Humanity and the Neighborhood Revitalization Project and other non-profit businesses in the area is to enhance the quality of life. She thanked the Commissioners that came to the Glens Neighborhood at Dacono and noticed the disrepair in the neighborhood. Ms. Stanek explained it has been recognized as one of the poorest communities in Northern Colorado and, after a survey there are 778 homes in the subdivision and of those homes at least one in five requires at least one major repair. She stated they are working with Lowes to do a beautification project on fifteen (15) homes and Lowes is providing the materials. Ms. Stanek announced they are looking for volunteers and $150,000.00 for land acquisitions. Mr. Lovell reiterated that it is important to make sure people age in place. Commissioner Conway thanked Mr. Lovell and Ms. Stanek for the work they are doing to help low income and aging residents. In response to Commissioner Conway, Mr. Lovell stated the meeting went well and resulted in the idea of a County -run loan program; however, the problem with this is that people will have a hard time paying back the loan. He stated one option would be to involve the State to help. a Tom Teixeira, Executive Director of the Greeley -Weld Housing Authority, stated there has not been a lot of interest in home repair programs for just under $25,000.00. Commissioner Moreno inquired about the breakfast on July 21, 2017, to see where the proceeds go. a Chair Cozad thanked him for the tour of the neighborhood and for the partnership. Mr. Teixeira reported he will be attending a groundbreaking for Peak View Trails, which will be providing 96 units of Senior Housing. 2017-1873 BC0016 Let the minutes reflect that the above and foregoing actions were attested to and respectfully submitted by the Acting Clerk to the Board.
