MEMORANDUM

SUBJECT: Letter of Concern
August 21, 2017
Reviewed local RMS (Spillman) and found several calls for service at the address: 2952 County
Road 63, Keenesburg, CO 80643.
12W22271 is a traffic complaint taken on 07-16-12 @ 0028 hours. "Kids in the area going 90 on
dirt roads". Deputy Graves handled but deferred to CSP because they were closer.
15W012724 is a meet the complainant taken on 04-05-15 @ 1710 hours. "RP has new
neighbors they built a range and have been shooting all day..." Deputy Scudder handled and
cleared "S" (serviced call). Reporting party was Gary.
15W016289 is a traffic complaint taken on 05-02-15 @ 2234 hours. "People shooting guns all
day, and racing their ATV's. Deputy Chapman handled.
17W024600 is a shot call taken on 07-02-17 @ 1145 hours. "Neighbors shooting guns in open
range..." Deputy Meadows added notes to the call; "People shooting are shooting directly east
where there are no houses. There is a natural berm from rolling hills. There is a house north
east but it is approx. 1/2 mile away and is not even close to being in the direction of potential harm
from gunshots. Father, son and possible grandfather shooting. Their setup looks safe and
responsible."
The last call, this year shows a deputy arrived on scene, viewed the area where shooting was
taking place and found it reasonable.

GUN SAFETY
We have lived in Weld County for 15 years. We are now experiencing tremendous growth and development
here in Keenesburg, Colorado. We believe in the 2nd amendment -right to bear arms, however, we now have
several neighbors, and the Weld County Sheriff's office staff, believing that this right has no limit or
responsibility applied to gun ownership. These folks, including the Weld County Sheriff's office, seem to
believe this amendment serves as cart blanche over the rights of fellow neighbors' safety and well
being. They have no regard for the potential danger to this community their reckless shooting has or
the safety and welfare of neighbors. Some of our neighbor's shoot guns off at all hours of the day and night
and we have been awakened to loud popping noises outside of our windows well in to the early morning
hours. We fear that a stray or ricocheting bullet will hurt or even worse kill somebody here in our
neighborhood.
The right to bear arms YES! The irresponsible behavior that jeopardizes and infringes on fellow human beings
right to be safe and secure NO!

Commissioners. We have received your letter of concern and are processing it. The issue you raised is under
the jurisdiction of the Weld County Sheriff's Office. The Weld County Sheriff, Steve Reams, is an elected
official. Your letter is being reviewed by both the County Commissioners and Sheriff Reams. You can expect a
