WELD COUNTY ADOPTION DAY
NOVEMBER 17, 2017
WHEREAS, the Board of Weld County Commissioners recognizes the importance of
giving children and youth permanent, safe and loving families through adoption; and
' WHEREAS, more than 110,000 children in the United States foster care system are
waiting to be adopted; and more than 23,000 youth in the United States turn 18
every year without having a forever family; and more than 275 children in Colorado
are waiting for forever families and legal permanency; and
WHEREAS, the National average wait for a child in foster care to be adopted is 3
j years; and Weld County has almost 20 children and youth still waiting to be adopted
in Weld County with the majority of the youth being male, ages 9 — 16; and
WHEREAS, Weld County has finalized 451 adoptions during the last decade, and 31
adoptions so far in 2017, with another 5 adoptions scheduled to be finalized in
November; and
WHEREAS, the Weld County Department of Human Services will hold a special
ii celebration on Friday, November 17th, to finalize the adoptions of 5 local children and
join other organizations to celebrate all adoptions.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of Weld County do hereby proclaim
November 17, 2017, as Weld County Adoption Day, and in so doing, urge all citizens
to join in a national effort to raise awareness about the importance of child welfare
adoption.
