SUBJECT: 2017 Concrete/Washed Rock/Squeegee, B1700037
The north and south division of Weld County for washed rock and squeegee is State Highway 66. The Public
Works Department recommends that the Board of County Commissioners award the washed rock to J-2
Contracting for northern Weld County at a price of $18.50 per ton and Varra Companies for southern Weld
County at a price of $19.75 per ton. J-2 Contracting was the lowest bidder for southern Weld County, but they
have only one plant which is located in Greeley. Varra Companies has a plant on Highway 66 which will be
closer to projects located in south Weld County.
The Public Works Department recommends that the bid for squeegee be awarded to J-2 Contracting for
northern and southern Weld County at a price of $8.00 per ton. J-2 Contracting was the low bidder for
squeegee.
The north and south division of Weld County for concrete is State Highway 14 due to the location of concrete
batch plants. Our recommendations are based on the fact that concrete can be on the transport truck for only
60 minutes from the time it is batched at the plant. Therefore, the Public Works Department recommends that
Class B Concrete be awarded to Simon Contractors for northern Weld County at a price of $112.00 per yard
and southern Weld County at a price of $125.50 per yard to Varra Companies.
The Public Works Department recommends that Class D Concrete be awarded to Simon Contractors for
northern Weld County at a price of $121.00 per yard and southern Weld County at a price of $128.00 per yard
to Varra Companies.
We further recommend that Flowfill/Lean Encasement be awarded to Simon Contractors for northern Weld
County at a price of $87.00 per yard and southern Weld County to Varra Companies at a price of $106.00 per
yard.
A total of $101,100 is budgeted for this purchase.
