Dear Mr. Halter:
The Board of Weld County Commissioners is pleased to provide this letter of support for the City of Longmont's Energy
Impact Assistance grant application for Concepts Industrial Park Infrastructure Improvements. The grant will help fund
the necessary infrastructure improvements to accommodate a new manufacturing facility for J.M. Smuckers, a global
brand in the consumer packaged goods industry. The project will result in Smuckers investing $340 million in facilities
and equipment over the next five years. The project will bring 500 new well -paying jobs to the city and county. Part of
the economic incentives offered by Weld County call for at least 50% of the new employees to be Weld County residents.
The attraction of J.M. Smuckers to Longmont and Weld County has been a cooperative effort with Weld County
committing over $2.6 million in personal property tax incentives and training grants. Weld County and Longmont have
had a regional planning agreement for over twenty years to help develop the State Highway 119 corridor.
This project is another example of the cooperative regional effort working to the benefit of both entities to diversify and
improve our economic, employment, and tax bases. This kind of diversification is critical to make Weld County and its
communities less dependent upon the impact of the energy development taking place in the county long term.
Your favorable approval of the City of Longmont's grant request will not only be beneficial to Longmont and Weld
County, but to the State of Colorado by adding another major employer in the region.
