MEMORANDUM
TO: Clerk to the Board DATE: April 10, 2017
FROM: Janet Lundquist, Public Works
SUBJECT: Speed Limits on CR 14.5 between CR 7 & CR 9
A Request Resolution from the BOCC directing Public Works to install traffic regulatory signs (Speed Limit R2-
1) on CR 14.5 between CR 7 and CR 9.
The most recent traffic count was taken in March 2017 the AADT was 123 vpd with 13% trucks and an
85th percentile of 30 mph. The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) recommends
posting the speed limit within 5 mph of the 85 percentile speed limit (Section 2B-13). Other factors
such as road characteristics, roadside development, accident records, and shoulder conditions may be
considered when establishing speed limits.
CR 14.5 is a gravel road and is classified as a local road. CR 14.5 is part of the Grandview Highland Estates
subdivision. Weld County received a citizen complaint requesting the reduction of the speed limit. Public Works
recommends that the speed limit on CR 14.5 between CR 7 and CR 9 should be posted at 30 mph which is in
accordance with the MUTCD.
