WELD COUNTY COUNCIL
June 19, 2017
The Weld County Council met in regular session in full conformity with the Weld County Home
Rule Charter at 6:30 p.m., Monday, June 19, 2017, at the Weld County Administration Building,
1150 0 Street, Greeley, CO.
ROLL CALL:
The meeting was called to order by President Brett Abernathy. Councilmen Michael Grillos,
Jordan Jemiola, Charles Tucker andGene Stille were present, constituting a quorum of members.
Also present was County Attorney Bruce Barker and County Council Secretary Linda Kane.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA:
Councilman Abernathy made a motion to approve the agenda, seconded by Councilman
Grillos and carried.
APPROVAL OF DOCUMENTATION
Approval of May 15, 2017, Minutes
Councilman Grillos made a motion to approve the May minutes, seconded by Councilman
Jemiola , and the motion carried.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
County employee Eliza Kunkle noted it was one year ago that she asked for the audit of the
Clerk and Recorder's Office.
NEW BUSINESS:
Coordinator Reports/Councilman Reports
There were no coordinator reports.
Councilman Grillos reported that he did a ride -a -long with a sheriff's deputy. He expressed
appreciation for the responsiveness, dedication and enthusiasm of officers.
Councilman Grillos also said the audits would be delayed due to a greater number of
respondents than anticipated.
Councilman Abernathy asked when employee interviews would convene for the audits and
was told June 30. Councilman Stille asked whether additional costs would be incurred due to
the higher number of responses and Councilman Grillos said he had not been advised of
additional costs.
Bills
1) Budget items
Councilman Abernathy met with Finance Director Don Warden about the 2018 budget.

A line item was added of $5,000 for legal services.
Councilman Stifle voiced hesitation at the item and Councilman Abernathy said it was
added in the event an attorney is needed in the future.
County Attorney Bruce Barker said adding the line item to the budget was prudent in
the event he cannot provide Council legal advice.
A motion was made by Councilman Abernathy to add line item and approve the 2018
budget worksheet, seconded by Councilman Stifle and carried with all ayes.
2) Review program for July
Councilman Abernathy suggested the July presentation be an explanation of fracking,
in which Secretary Linda Kane will find an expert to invite.
Councilman Stille made a motion to approve bills, it was seconded by Councilman Tucker and
carried.

OLD BUSINESS:
Discussion regarding audits of the Clerk and Recorder's Office and
County Commissioners
Items were already discussed during New Business. The audit will be delayed by a few weeks.
ADJOURNMENT:
By acclamation, the meeting was adjourned at 6:57 p.m.
