WELD COUNTY PLANNING
BOARD MEETING
7/5/2017
My name is Sue Jones
We live on CR 98 in Weld County
I'm a retired Certified Registered Nurse (emeritus)
We have lived in Weld County since 7/2004
CASE #USR17-0024
Ladies, Gentlemen of the Board:
I hereby respectfully submit our protest regarding the above Case number,
a horse Race Track business TBB in Weld County
at the junctions of CR 96 & CR 37. My husband and myself appreciate
your hearing our concerns over this.
1 - FAMILIES: to close to children and general family homes/farms
2 - ALCOHOL SALES: increase of alcohol use and possible marijuana
use in an area of that has no routine police coverage
3 - GAMBLING: in an area of no routine police coverage
4 - BURGLARY: possible increase in break ins, general theft in an area
with no routine police coverage as this project is approx. 3
miles off Hwy 85
5 - COUNTY ROADS: It so happens that county road 96 has no through
access from Hwy 85. This will increase the already heavy
traffic, especially CR 98. It will also increase the traffic on CR 94 and
CR 35.
We currently have the oil well traffic, independent haulers going to the
gravel pit as well as the expansion of people moving into this
area so that will include the construction vehicles that all use CR 98 as
a main access. There are more homes on CR 98 currently
than the other county roads in the Weld/Nunn area. The narrow dirt
roads with the increase in traffic on the weekends would be
detrimental. The ideal place for a race track would be on Hwy 85
where it would be seen by the traffic on that road, not out in the
middle of a "residential" area.
6 - NOISE: The noise level for weekend race track goers would also
increase in the area.
7 - AREA: This is a farming, ranching and family area of Weld County and
wasn't designed for a business right smack in the middle
of it all.
8 - PROPERTY VALUES. The race track could very well lower the
property values of all the homeowners in the current area.
These are just a few of my concerns over a business of this sort being built
in this particular area. There is land available on Hwy 85 for easy access
to a race track not to mention being seen by more people from the
surrounding states coming thru that may be interested in attending the race
track for entertainment.
Overall. we're not opposed the race track, it's the location and the
disruption it would cause in a residential/farming community. If they don't
allow marijuana shops or alcohol sales in an area of where there's a
school. then why would you put a race track in the middle of a
residential/farming community?
Thank you for hearing my(our) concerns.
Michael & Sue Jones
