HomeMy WebLinkAbout20171924.tiffCENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY OF THE WELD COUNTY COURTHOUSE JULY 4, 2017 WHEREAS, in 1914, the three -member board of county commissioners agreed to move forward on the building of a new courthouse to better accommodate the needs of the growing county and its population, and WHEREAS, a $5.25 tax on every $1,000 of taxable property was imposed for three years to ensure the payment of the new building was in full at time of completion thereby not incurring any debt for the residents of Weld County, and WHEREAS, architect William N. Bowman designed the Weld County Courthouse to reflect the dignity of county government and the wealth of Weld County overall, earning the building the nickname "the Jewel of the Plains," and c WHEREAS, it was the hope of the 1917 board of commissioners that the investment in the new courthouse would prove to be a wise one predicting that the building should last for generations to come, and WHEREAS, today, in 2017, the current board of commissioners can proudly say the Weld County Courthouse, completed on July 4, 1917, still stands as beautiful and valuable as the day it opened and still serves the needs of the residents of the county. _ _,�,-sue NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, that July 4, 2017, is the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Weld County Courthouse, and this board of commissioners echoes the hope of the 1917 board of commissioners in that our grand courthouse continues to serve the residents of Weld County for yet another century ./-=-.
