REPORT TO THE PEOPLE

The Weld County Council is mandated in accordance with the Home Rule Charter of Weld County,
Colorado, to report to the people of Weld County on a quarterly basis, those matters related to the
council's review of Weld County government. This report summarizes the activities of the Weld County
Council during the first quarter of the calendar year 2017.
January 16, 2017
Selection of 2017 Officers
Brett Abernathy was elected Council President and Michael Grillos was elected Vice -President.
Question and Answer Session Regarding Bids for Audits of the Clerk and Recorder's Office and
the Weld County Commissioners
The following audit representatives were in attendance or on a conference call. Jennifer Vincent with
Berry/Dunn of Portland, ME; Jessica Davidson with Arrow Performance Group, Denver; Rick Lucy with
Paragon Audit and Consulting Inc., Denver; Nicolas Menard with Harvey Rose Assoc., San Francisco,
CA; John Benjamin with The Consortium, Greeley, and Zig Berzins, ZCo Consulting, Denver.
Ad Hoc Audit Committee
Councilmen Grillos and Stille were selected for an ad hoc committee to oversee daily business regarding
the audits.
February 13, 2017
Recognition of Former Council Member Don Mueller
Resolution 209 was approved, recognizing Don Mueller for serving on the Weld County Council.
Approval of Bid for Audits
Bid #b1700059 was accepted, awarding Harvey M. Rose Associates, LLC, of San Francisco, CA, the
audits of the Clerk and Recorder's Office and County Commissioners. The audits are expected to be
complete by June or July.
Audit Committee
The ad hoc committee of Councilmen Stille and Grillos was disbanded. A new committee of
Councilmen Abernathy and Grillos was established to coordinate with auditors.

Discussion of Independent Legal Counsel Pertaining to Ongoing Audits
Council voted to seek independent legal counsel regarding the ongoing audits of the County
Commissioners and County Clerk and Recorder's office with dissent from Councilmen Stille and Tucker.
