The Weld County Noxious Weed Advisory Board recognizes
Steven Cockroft with Ogilvie Land and Irrigation Company for
his dedication to ensuring that water is able to flow through the
ditch system and reach all of the share -holders. This is done
through weed control, dredging and other enhancements made
to the system before problems arise while working with the users
of the water system.

Steve Cockroft
Steve Cockroft is an employee of the Ogilvie land and Irrigation Co. He is responsible for
running water from April through December. His other duties include treating Canada thistle,
field bindweed, sago pondweed and other problem plants. The ditch looks the best it has in a
long time. He was able to create a road on both sides of the ditch to enable better management
of the canal.
Steve provides good support and assistance to all the members along the ditch. He consistently
monitors the ditch for water flows, problem areas and weeds so that they can be addressed in a
timely manner to limit future issues. Every year he evaluates the work completed and adjusts
common practices to improve the water distribution to the members.
In summary, Steve is open to new ideas and investigating options to make the job easier. He
manages the water so it gets where it is needed and that people can produce a crop. Steve
communicates will with the members in a timely manner. He is a true asset to the Ogilvie Land
and Irrigation Co and their members.

RE: Irrigation Ditch Rider Recognition

Brief description of the problem/issue:
In December 2014, the Noxious Weed Advisory Board, through a pass around, asked the Board of County
Commissioners if the Noxious Weed Advisory Board could make the presentation to the winning recipient of
the Irrigation Ditch Rider Award at one of the Board of County Commissioners official meetings, instead of
during the Colorado Farm Show. The Board of County Commissioners at the time agreed to this. 2016 was the
first year that this award was presented to the winning recipient at a February Board meeting. The Noxious
Weed Advisory Board is ready to make this presentation again. Attached is the write-up of the winning
recipient.
What options exist for the Board? (Include consequences, impacts, costs, etc. of options)
1. Allow the presentation to be made at an upcoming Board meeting.
2. Do not allow the presentation to be made at an upcoming Board meeting.
