RAILROAD SAFETY WEEK
SEPTEMBER 25 - 29, 2017
WHEREAS, Weld County has a strong railroad history and heritage with a
substantial railroad property; and
WHEREAS, the presences of railroad property and street rail crossings suggests a
need for public safety awareness; and
WHEREAS, collisions between trains and motor vehicles or pedestrians can be
prevented by increased public awareness of the dangers at the railroad
crossings, around railroad property and the appropriate safety laws; and
WHEREAS, the railroads collectively, the Federal Railroad Administration and
Weld County through Operation Lifesaver are the promoters of the public
information and education programs dedicated to preventing crashes and
trespass incidents; and
WHEREAS, this important observance should lead to greater safety awareness
and a reduction in street and rail crashes and pedestrian/railroad incidents; and
WHEREAS, the Commissioners of Weld County, in conjunction with the Federal
Railroad Administration, encourage all citizens to participate in activities to
reduce crossing crashed and pedestrian/railroad trespass incidents during this
week and through the year;
NOW, THEREFORE, We, the Commissioners of Weld County, do hereby proclaim
