Dear Glenn:
Commissioners Jacobucci and Steinmark contacted my office during
the week of August 1 regarding damages sustained by Weld County roads
and bridges as a result of the flooding of the Big Thompson.
On August 11 I asked President Ford to designate portions of Weld,
El Paso and Pueblo Counties for disaster funds. Once that designation
is made, federal funds will be available to assist Weld County in repairing
the damaged roads and bridges. I have enclosed a copy of the letter I sent
to President Ford.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to be of assistance.

Dear Mr. President:
•
On August 2, you declared Larimer County as a disaster area
due to the Big Thompson flood of July 31 and August 1. This act
enabled the county to be eligible for assistance under the Disaster
Relief Act of 1974.
Since then, I have determined that other counties within
Colorado also suffered damage to public facilities, roads and bridges
due to this storm system. Weld County sustained approximately $465,000
in damages as a direct result of Big Thompson
Flooding. Pueblo County sustained approximately
pproxi River and re River
mately ,0 0ina
in the Rye and Colorado City vicinity due to Greenhorn Creek flooding.
El Paso County suffered as yet an unspecified amount of damage in the
Sart1Creek and Jimmy Camp Creek area. The Pueblo and El Paso County
flooding occurred on August 2 and, to my understanding, was a part
of the same storm system which caused the Big
county officials have contacted me confir Thompson flood. Appropriate

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Gov. Richard D. Lamm has asked President Ford to designate portions of
Pueblo, El Paso and Weld Counties for federal disaster funds for damages
those counties suffered as a result of the storm which caused the Big Thompson
Canyon flood.
"Parts of these three counties also were flooded by the same storm that
devastated the Big Thompson Canyon. While the initial focus of our relief
efforts were on the Larimer County disaster, we also need to respond to
Pueblo, El Paso and Weld counties," Lamm said in a statement.
"Accordingly, we are asking the President to designate parts of those
counties for disaster relief funds," the governor said.
