Community Solar Gardens
What are they?
Community Solar is a simple way for homeowners,
businesses and governments to participate in solar
with no upfront capital outlay and no responsibility to
operate or maintain the system.
Each garden must have a minimum of 10 unique, legal
entities participating at any given time. No party may
subscribe to more than 40% of the total electricity
produced by the system.
The subscriber receives a bill credit for each kWh
of energy they are subscribed to, and the savings
are shared between the subscriber and Oak Leaf.
Everybody saves money.
A law is passed in Colorado
aimed at encouraging
investment in solar energy by
allowing the creation of
community solar gardens.
How does a Community Solar Garden Work?
Project Development
Oak Leaf develops the
project, from acquiring
land to gaining municipal
approval to procuring the
equipment and
constructing the array.
Payment to Oak Leaf
The bill credit is shared
between the subscriber
and Oak Leaf, so everyone
saves money.
Community Support
Oak Leaf identifies
potential subscribers who
reside in the same or
contiguous county to the
solar garden.
Bill Credits
Participants are issued a bill
credit for each kWh they are
subscribed to. For 2017, the
Bill Credit is 6.947 cents/kWh.
