Approval for Area Agency on Aging to serve as Convening
Agency for United Way of Weld County
Please review and indicate if you would like a work session prior to placing this item on the Board's agenda.
Request Board Approval for Area Agency on Aging to serve as the Convening Agency for United Way of
Weld County. United Way of Weld County is implementing a new funding process for its primary funding
mechanism, the Collective Impact Fund. Nonprofits, government agencies, faith -based organizations, and other
interested entities, assist United Way, in developing this process in four areas, one of which is Senior Services
(aged 60+). A strategic plan with county -wide measurable goals will be developed for each process, and will
provide guidance to the United Way of Weld County board of directors, regarding investment of its financial and
staff resources from 2019 to 2022.
Each of the four areas will have a Convening Agency, which is intimately familiar with the area of focus, and will
bring interested and essential individuals and agencies to the process, and ensure the results of the planning are
needed and realistic. Weld County Area Agency on Aging is requesting BOCC approval to act as the Convening
Agency for the Senior Services focus area. The planning process will run from early summer of 2018 to spring of
2019. Identification of Senior Services as a focus area will potentially lead to greater community understanding of
seniors' needs, and to increased service options and development of new funding streams for senior needs.
I do not recommend a Work Session. I recommend approval of Area Agency on Aging to serve as the
Convening Agency for the Senior Services focus area for United Way of Weld County.
