This report summarizes the activities of the Weld County Council during the fourth quarter of the calendar year 2018. January 22, 2018 Election of Council President and Vice -President The Weld County Council voted unanimously to elect Gene Stille as President and Charles Tucker as Vice -President. Salaries Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams addressed Council regarding salary increases for himself and Weld County Clerk & Recorder Carly Koppes. Three members of the public also addressed Council calling for salary increases for the Sheriff and Clerk's office, while suggesting the County Commissioners' salaries should remain the same. The Council voted unanimously to increase the Sheriff's salary to $160,000; the Clerk's office to $120,000 and the Weld County Assessor to $120,000. Council voted to keep the County Commissioners' salaries the same. Discussion of whistleblower policy Councilman Gene Stille said the county needed to make it comfortable for whistleblowers to come forward. He suggested a 7-9 member committee be established to look into the matter. County Attorney Bruce Barker said the County Commissioners were exploring the issue as a result of the recent audits. Council voted to establish and ad -hoc advisory committee to begin the process. January 22, 2018 Update on Whistleblower Program Council discussed the creation of a whistleblower ad -hoc committee. County Attorney Bruce Barker said the first work session was set for February 21. He said it was open to the public. March 19, 2019 Update on Whistleblower Program A charter review committee was established and will meet once a week through May. They will have outreach meetings in various places throughout the county beginning in April to make it easier for the public to attend. Some Council members expressed concerns regarding Commissioners having final say on whether any suggested changes are placed on the November ballot.
