fi.;;M11RUT: During May, 1977, the Department experienced the expected increase in Food
• Stamp participation while the Aid to Dependent Children caseload decreased somewhat
due to seasonal factors.
The arrival of seasonal migrant worker families accounted for 196 (b3%) of the 462 new
applications taken for Food Stamps during May. This is slightly higher than the level
of migrant family participation experienced in the previous year when 174 migrant families
applied. The remaining 266 new applications were received from unemployed and other low
income families.
Total Food Stamp sales were $291,054, highest since February, 1975. Increased dollar sales
are due more to cost of living and bonus increases in the program than due to increased
pr rticapition.
The Aid to Dependent: Children caseload decreased by 32 families comprised of 119 people.
Thin decrease was anticipated with the increased availability of seasonal jobs. Other
caseloads did not have remarkable changes.
•
Pudic: Assistance expenditures (excluding Old Age Pension) for May were $469,965. This
amount was $22,803 less than the previous month of April but $9,920 higher than the same .
month in 1976. Most of the decrease compared to the prior month was due to the decrease
in Aid. to Dependent Children caseload.
