100th Weld County Fair
July 25-30, 2018
WHEREAS, county fairs are etched into the history of Weld County. Beginning in the
late 1800s, several independent county fairs were held, each highlighting developments
in agriculture throughout our county; and
WHEREAS, the call for a consistent, unified fair with county government support came
from a March 1918 Greeley Tribune and Greeley Republican Article titled, "We Want a
County Fair." Previous independent efforts had failed, and the author believed a unified
fair would strengthen agriculture in Weld County as it would promote, "an exchange of
ideas and the visible demonstration of results." The Central Community Fair and Tractor
Show was held later that year; and
WHEREAS, the fair's value and positive impact was seen throughout the county. In
1921, the name of the fair was changed to the Weld County Fair. Since then, the Board
of County Commissioners, through the efforts of the Weld County Fair Board, have
worked consistently each year to make sure every event is a fun, unique and valuable
experience to both participants and visitors; and
WHEREAS, for 100 years the Weld County Fair has showcased great agricultural talents
of youth in 4-H and Future Farmers of America programs. It's also changed over time to
feature events and activities that cater to a variety of different interests for people of all
ages; and
NOW, THEREFORE, let it be known the Weld County Board of Commissioners is proud
to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the Weld County Fair. We urge all citizens to
visit the fair July 25th through the 30th and enjoy a true community event that has
positively affected thousands of residents and served as a great asset to Weld County.
