WHEREAS, on the thirty-first day of July, 1976, the tragedy
which struck in the Big Thompson Canyon so shocked the senses of
our citizens; and
WHEREAS, during the past days this tragedy personally touched
the families of several citizens of the City of Greeley and the County
of Weld; and
WHEREAS, the entire community is saddened by the grief of
all families affected by this tragedy;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Mayor of the City of Greeley and the
Board of Commissioners of Weld County do hereby proclaim:
1. That a time of bereavement and reflection is appropriate
during the remainder of the month of August, 1976; and
2. During the period of August 6, 1976 through August 31,
1976, all flags of the City of Greeley and County of Weld, Colorado,
shall be flown at half-staff on all government buildings in mourning
for those who lost their lives during this tragic event; and
3. All private citizens are encouraged to join the City of
Greeley and the County of Weld during this period through appropriate
commemoration by displaying flags at half-staff.
