,_ WHEREAS, the Windsor Wizards girls golf team competed at the Class 4A State
Championships May 21, 2019, in Windsor at Pelican Lakes Golf Course; and k

s WHEREAS, despite the two-day championship tournament getting shortened one day
1a due to bad weather, the Wizards strong performance on day one gave them a 21-shot y �_
lead over Niwot; and
Jr 1 WHEREAS, the individual performances of Jessica Zapf, Kinsey Smith, Brynn Ellis and i ,h

r Sarah Johnson contributed to the Wizards finishing 37-over par with a first-place score i �i

Dear Mr. Johnson,
As three of the four girls on last year's golf team have graduated, we certainly understand coach
Kenny Anderson's desire not to bring the team in to be formally recognized by the Board of
Commissioners. Recognizing state championship spring sports teams is uniquely challenging. The
conclusion of spring sports runs so close to the end of the school year that it's difficult to find a time
for the kids to be honored. We don't want to interfere with summer plans, but by waiting, we also
run the risk of players graduating and losing the chance to congratulate them personally on a special
accomplishment.
Because winning a state championship is such a special and unique moment in the lives of our young
people, we still want to honor the Windsor Wizards girls golf team. While doing it formally at a
board meeting may not be possible,we want the golf team,Windsor High School students and staff,
and the entire Windsor community to know just how proud we are of the Wizards for their second
consecutive girls golf state championship! We realize the hard work, teamwork and dedication
required by team members,coaches and parents to accomplish such a feat,and those traits are ones
we admire in Weld County residents.
Enclosed is a proclamation signed by all five county commissioners.Please share with the team and
school as you see fit.
