Roosevelt Roughriders knowledge bowl team competed at the Colorado Knowledge
Bowl State Tournament March 18th and 19th at Colorado State University; and
WHEREAS, the team spent two days competing in eight oral rounds and two written
rounds answering questions ranging from history, math, science, biology, language
arts, and current events. Their top score over two days allowed them to compete in
the final round for the Class 4A State Championship against Berthoud and Palmer
Ridge; and
WHEREAS, Berthoud and Palmer Ridge gave incorrect responses to the final
question: "The evolution of fish formed three distinct branches: scaly fish; bony fish,
and this type." Roosevelt gave the correct response to secure the 4A State
Championship by one point; and
WHEREAS, Roosevelt's knowledge bowl victory is also helping students individually.
Team member and senior Emily Gutierrez was awarded a $1,000 scholarship to the
University of Northern Colorado and Roosevelt was also awarded a $1,000
scholarship to give to a senior attending Colorado State University.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of County Commissioners
in Weld County, Colorado that in recognition of Roosevelt's state title victory, along
with the work ethic and knowiedge put forth by the coaches and students of the
knowledge bowl team; May 6, 2019, be known as Roosevelt Roughriders Day.
