Dear Mr. Latuda,
The Weld County Board of Commissioners wishes to congratulate coach Eric Lind and the Highland Huskies girls track
team for winning their second consecutive Class 2A state championship on Saturday, May 18! Just competing in a sport
requires commitment, dedication and hard work. Winning a state championship is a result of each team member
continually exemplifying those traits throughout the season, and those traits are ones we admire in all Weld County
residents.
We realize how much a state title means to you, the girls track team and coaches, Highland High School and the entire
Weld RE -9 community. It means a lot to us too! That's why at the end of each high school sports season, we take time to
honor the state championship teams in Weld County by proclaiming a day in the schools' honor and formally
congratulating the team on their special accomplishment during one of our weekly board meetings.
Doing this in the spring season presents a challenge, however, as the end of the season is so close to the end of the school
year. Seniors graduate, and other team members may have work or family commitments during the summer making it
difficult for the team to be in attendance.
To make it easier for the team to be recognized and allow for the most parents, students and faculty to attend, we've
decided to wait until the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year to honor the girls track team. At that time, we'd love to
invite the team to be recognized with a proclamation proclaiming Highland Huskies Day.
Once again, congratulations to the Highland girls track team for an out outstanding season. We look forward to
recognizing their state title victory in the future!
