RESOLUTION RE: APPROVE, IN-PART, PETITION FOR ABATEMENT OR REFUND OF TAXES FOR ACCOUNT NUMBER R8948161 - JESUS AND TERESITA RIVAS WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, State of Colorado, at a duly and lawfully called regular meeting held on the 23rd day of September, 2019, at which meeting there were present the following members: Chair Barbara Kirkmeyer, and Commissioners Mike Freeman, Sean P. Attached is our abatement form for property address 5795 County Rd 22 Firestone CO 80504 you had requested be completed. Below are some reasons we do not agree with the taxes assessed for 2018, we begin construction on the property on January 17, 2018 and completed construction on August 30, 2018. We occupied the house immediately after the county's inspector stated we could. The property is being assessed as vacant land for 2018, however we had water and electric utilities on the property prior to January 2018. Building permits for residential building were submitted to Weld County in November of 2017. I do not understand why there was such a large increase in the taxes for 2018 when the property is being appraised by Weld County at$151,812 when in 2017 it was appraised at$106,112 and property taxes were$719. I believe there is a cap on how much property taxes can increase per year. I believe the property should be assessed as residential for the 2018 calendar year and not vacant land.
