WHEREAS, the University Bulldogs softball team competed in the Class 3A State
Tournament October 25 and 26 at Aurora Sports Park; and
WHEREAS, in University's fifth softball season, and fourth with a varsity team, the
Bulldogs defeated La Junta, Limon, Lamar and Strasburg in the tournament to advance
to the state championship game against the Brush Beetdiggers; and
WHEREAS, sophomore Ashlyn Knapp's three -run home run in the fifth inning combined
with senior Delaney Wieneke's two -run home run in the sixth inning helped University
defeat the Beetdiggers 8-4. Pitcher Kayla Kingsley was equally as dominant, striking out
four and earning her 16th victory of the season; and
WHEREAS, the victory enabled University to avenge two regular season defeats to
Brush and claim the softball program's first state championship.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of Commissioners in Weld
County, Colorado, that in honor of the University's state championship season, Monday,
December 9, 2019, be known as University Bulldogs Day.
