Initially as Decoration Day, Memorial Day served as a time for the nation to decorate graves of those who died in the Civil War with flowers; WHEREAS, in 1868, Major General John A. Logan declared that Decoration Day should be observed on May 30, to guard their veterans' graves with sacred vigilance by saying, "Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent visitors and fond mourners. Let no neglect, no savages of time, testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic."; and NOW, THEREFORE, let it be known that the Board of Weld County Commissioners does hereby proclaim Monday, May 27, 2019, as Memorial Day. We call upon the citizens of Weld County to make a commitment in honoring our fallen heroes. They have earned our undying gratitude. Our debt to the heroic men and women in the service of our country can never be repaid. We shall never forget their sacrifices. Hello
