HomeMy WebLinkAbout20192958.tiffOVIN WHEREAS, in 1882 the Burlington -Missouri River Railroad line was built in southeastern Weld County; and WHEREAS, Keene Station, named for local homesteader Les Keene, was built along that rail line and was the site of yearly cattle drives, which produced the bulk of the business at Keene Station; and WHEREAS, the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad built a depot at Keene Station in 1906 and subsequently requested a post office at the location; and WHEREAS, the post office was established in 1907, but to prevent confusion with Keene, Nebraska, the name of the station was changed to Keenesburg; and WHERAS, growth in the area led to the formation of the town of Keenesburg, which was incorporated in 1919; and WHEREAS, the town has continued to grow and thrive and maintain its character, including its town motto "Home of 500 happy people and a few soreheads;" and WHEREAS, the town will celebrate its 100th Anniversary on July 20th, 2019, with live music, historic displays and games and prizes. NOW, THERFORE, BE IT KNOWN that the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, wishes the town of Keenesburg and all of its residents, even the soreheads, a wonderful Centennial Anniversary celebration.
