State Wrestling Championship February 21, 22, and 23, at the Pepsi Center in
Denver, Colorado and;
WHEREAS, as he had done throughout his entire wrestling career, Alirez
dominated the competition, defeating opponents from Harrison High School,
Coronado High School, and Pueblo West, to make it to the 4A state
championship match in the 152 -pound division and;
WHEREAS, in a history -making performance, Alirez pinned Pueblo County's
Trevor Singleton to win his fourth state wrestling title and become Weld County's
first four -time state wrestling champion and has also garnered national
recognition, finishing his senior season ranked as the top 152 -pound high school
wrestler in the country by intermatwrestle.com and;
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners would like to extend its
congratulations to Alirez, his family, and the coaches, students and staff at
Greeley Central High School for a historic career. The perseverance, hard work,
and dedication needed to accomplish such a feat are traits we admire in Weld
County residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of County
Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, that in recognition of Andrew Alirez
becoming Weld County's first four -time state wrestling champion, Monday, March
25, 2019, be recognized as Andrew Alirez Day.
